Breaking the Rules: What Famous Artists Can Teach Us

    INTERACTIVE ART CRITIQUE & DISCUSSION
    MONDAY • DECEMBER 7 • 9:30 AM

What makes great art so interesting is that even celebrated artists sometimes seem to break the “rules” we are taught as artists.

What works? What doesn’t? What would you change? And is what appears to be a flaw actually an intentional choice that makes the painting stronger?

This interactive discussion will help us look more closely at famous works of art while also sharpening the way we evaluate our own paintings.

Can you spot the “broken rules”?
    Look • Question • Discuss • Discover

Together we’ll examine famous works of art through composition, value, color, perspective, focal point, movement and more. You may discover that some of art’s most memorable “mistakes” weren’t mistakes at all.

Can breaking the rules make a painting stronger?
    No supplies needed.
Just bring your artist’s eye, your curiosity, and your opinions.
Look for the yellow bow on the classroom door.
The classroom is in the long, low building at the back of the campus.
    Members $15   |   Nonmembers $25
Payable online for both members and non-member guests.
